Voedselbos Griene Nest
FORESTS
FOR THE
FUTURE
Located in Sumar, Friesland, Voedselbos ‘T Griene nest is a young food forest that is transitioning from a blueberry farm to a young food forest.
This young food forest, designed and developed by VæxTerra, transforms a former blueberry farm into a resilient ecosystem that feeds both people and nature. Every tree and plant is carefully chosen to enrich the soil, support bees and butterflies, and create a self-sustaining environment.

Food Without Chemicals
We grow food using the no-dig method: no ploughing, no pesticides, no herbicides. Instead, we build soil fertility naturally with compost, allowing healthy crops, richer flavors, and thriving biodiversity.
Community & Harvest Shares
Through a CSA model (Community Supported Agriculture), members buy a seasonal harvest share and enjoy fresh, chemical-free produce from May to November. Together we share abundance and risks, making farming fair, resilient, and deeply connected to the community.
From Soil to Table
The food forest also supplies unique, seasonal ingredients to local high-end restaurants, strengthening ties between farmers, chefs, and consumers while promoting sustainable, seasonal cuisine.
Lasting Impact
By combining fruit and nut trees, annual and perennial vegetables, and native plants, this food forest restores biodiversity, supports pollinators, acts as a carbon sink, and builds resilience against climate change.
More than a farm, it’s a living landscape where food, nature, and people thrive together.
